The French Connection

Zidane came out tops last night, after scoring a crucial penalty to prevent Portugal from advancing to the finals in Berlin. After beating Brasil in the quarter-finals, France look very confident that they could beat Portugal. It was a battle of wits in midfield between Figo and Zidane. But Judging from the performance of both veterans, Zidane looked much sharper that Figo. Anyway Scolari started off the game with only Pauleta upfront alone. Which I think was a bad idea. How to score with only 1 sriker. Although they came close a couple of times. Still it wasn't enough. Then again France also started of with Henry alone upfront haha. Portugal started off strong. Ronaldo with his amazing speed and agility on the flanks cut through the French defence like hot knife through butter. But after going down 1 nil, from the penalty in the 33rd minute, Portugal starts to crumble down due to pressure. Ronaldo starts becoming selfish. That boy have to learn when to be/not to be selfish.

Anyway like I've said earlier it was gonna be a French-Italian affair. Dad's rooting for a French victory. I'm in the other hand rooting for the Azzuris. So its gonna be another father-son rivalry this finals. Just like when Liverpool meets Manchester United. (i'm with Man U in case u didnt know). I dunno why but i just dont like the French team. They have great players no doubt. But I just dont like them. Maybe because I kinda associate them with Arsenal.(I dont like Arsenal. Sorry to all Arsenal fans.)

World Cup's coming to an end. "Mummy its over!!!!"(*starts bawling ala Just for laughs*). It was fun while it lasted. Oh by the way the Gillette Best young player award have shortlisted 6 to win the title. who are the 6 you ask? In random order...

-Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
-Lionel Messi (Argentina)
-Luis Valencia (Ecuador)
-Tranquillo Barnetta (Switzerland)
-Cesc Fabregas (Spain)
-Lucas Podolski (Germany)

For more information visit here. Right now leading the votes is Valencia but close behind in 2nd place is Ronaldo and Messi 3rd. My vote goes to Ronaldo but after the little incident between Rooney and him, I doubt many people will vote for him. It was shown clearly last night during the French and Portugal game that whenever he gets the ball, he's constantly Boo-ed by the crowd. BUt I must admire his determination. Despite the jeering, he turn a deaf ear and kept on playing.

I guess that about it for now. Spider sense tingling...Feeling hungry. Gonna swing to the kitchen. cheerio
